Why Tequila Stings

It's in the alcohol

We may love tequila, but not all of us like the sting of an actual shot, preferring mixed drinks instead. So why does tequila sting? In short, it's because the alcohol lowers your capacity to withstand heat in your throat, making it much more sensitive and causing a strong burn that can feel worse than, say, coffee or hot soup. And while it does make you suddenly feel warmer, it's not actually heat you're generating but your body giving you a warning that something is wrong. Ouch.

That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy your booze in moderation, but it does mean that you can definitely do some damage with too much, and why experience the unpleasantness in the first place?
