Long Island Iced Tea
Ohhh the Long Island Iced Tea. While a tasty beverage, it apparently has quite the reputation considering everytime I order one, I get a look from everyone around me. You know, that look like "wow, bad day, huh?" Or "Yikes, drink much?" I find it pretty amusing since to me, alcohol is alcohol and you can still enjoy a drink like this one, without turning into a raging alcoholic. It helps as well, that most of the bars I've ordered a Long Island Iced Tea in, have a serving limit. Pretty smart idea considering the ingredients.
A drink that is equal parts (get ready for it) vodka, gin, tequila, rum and triple sec with 1 1/2 parts sour mix and a splash of cola, it's pretty much guaranteed to warm you up in no time. Some places will replace the sour mix with sweet and sour mix or with lemon juice and sometimes replace the cola with actual tea but in most cases, aside from the name there is no tea in this drink.
I've found that my favorite variation is replacing the sour mix with lemon juice, but it's definitely a personal preference. And even though the alcohol content in this drink is high, if it's made well, it won't have a really strong aclohol taste. If you haven't tried a Long Island, i definitely recommend you do, in all of it's variations...Just not all in one night.
